Located in the heart of the Côte-du-Sud region, along the majestic shores of the Saint Lawrence River, the archipelago of Isle-aux-Grues (21 islands) is exposed to phenomenal tides which can reach up to as many as 20 feet. Predators being almost non-existent on the island, Isle-aux-Grues is a favoured nesting site. In the past, as many as 218 bird species have been observed, many of which live year round on the island. Isle-aux-Grues is the only island in the archipelago to be inhabited year round by people. It is also the spot that famous painter Jean-Paul Riopelle chose to make his nest.

The Mi-Carême

The Mi-Carême is a very special celebration that takes place on Isle-aux-Grues every winter. During the traditional Mi-Carême celebration, the women of the island make beautiful costumes, displaying their impressive talent and creativity. The goal behind the celebration is to try and not be recognised by your fellow islanders during the evening visits from house to house. Birdwatching Trip to Isle-aux-Grues

Criss-cross your way along the mudflats, while comfortably seated in our panoramic vehicle, which are home to the Greater Snow Geese during migration. In addition to learning about the history and customs of the island, with a little bit of luck, you’ll observe certain rare birds like the short-eared owl. This package includes: • A narrated cruise of the archipelago • An historical and cultural tour of the island with an ORNITOUR's guide • Transportation onboard a panoramic vehicle • Binoculars • Listening to the yellow rail at night on the mudflats between Isle-aux-Grues and Île-aux-Oies • Early morning birdwatching tour   * Taxes, food and lodging are not included.  The lovers tree  This activity does not require any particular physical effort in order to participate.
